The Solar System: E-Learning Piece

This is an E-Learning piece created for an E-Learning authoring assessment at Munster Technological University, where I am studying the E-Learning Design and Development course (opens in a new window). The task was to create a short E-learning course utilising good instructional design principles such as Mayer’s multi-media principles.

I decided to create a short interactive module on the Solar System. The end result, which you can see below, was part of a larger Moodle course, where the course would have trackable progress, presented with additional learning materials, and there were interactions to complete.

I wanted to ensure there was a gamified feeling throughout so I used the stylised cartoon graphics from Vyond and blended video elements with Storyline. For example, when you finish the introduction video, it seamlessly brings you into the solar system main menu.

For accessibility, I have spent a lot of time making sure the Storyline package is as accessible as can be, naming buttons, alt texting images, setting up and testing the focus order, etc. The Moodle course has alternative formats such as slide decks, audio files and transcripts. This is not just for accessibility reasons but also for good general usability.
